Award winning author Lisa Wingate will be special guest speaker at the February 15 meeting of the Mason Bluebonnet Study Club to be held at the Eckert Center at 2:00 p.m. A favorite of local avid readers, Mrs. Wingate has a new book out in her Daily, Texas series entitled Never Say Never. She will review this latest addition to her long list of published books as well as encourage her audience to be creative themselves.

Lisa Wingate grew up in Oklahoma, but is a transplanted Texan living in rural central Texas with her husband and two sons. Along with her writing, she is much in demand as an inspirational speaker.

The author has written a number of books connected by subject or locales. In her style of writing, her characters are developed and followed throughout the series of books. Her first series of book was the Tending Roses grouping largely inspired by an elderly relative who became Grandma Rose in the books. Tending Roses, Good Hope Road, The Language of Sycamores, Drenched In Light, and A Thousand Voices were the titles in this series. Next came the Texas Hill Country trilogy including Texas Cooking, Lone Star Cafe, and Over the Moon at the Big Lizard Cafe. (Her relatives were heard to comment that one should be careful with behavior because you just might recognize yourself as one of her characters.)

Two books in her more recent series called The Blue Sky Series entitled A Month of Summer and The Summer Kitchen deal with the serious subjects of the after effects of a stroke suffered by a loved one in the first; and with children who are hungry and neglected by parents in the second.

The Daily, Texas series is a funny and entertaining treatment of small town Texas life and the adventures of a character named "Aunt Donetta" who knows all the goings on and cooks up schemes to influence the lives around her. Talk of the Town was the first book in this series and this latest Never Say Never continues to develop the Daily characters with a few outlsiders thrown into the mix.

After the experience of a Lisa Wingate book, the reader has a vivid and lasting impression of her characters to such an extent that she receives questions constantly about what happens next.

Fans and members of the community are invited to attend the meeting and get the author’s autograph on books already purchased or to purchase a limited quantity brought by the author to the gathering. Since some of the first ones are hard to find, this is an excellent opportunity to fill in collections.

Refreshments will be served and there will be no charge to club members or guests who attend.
