The Mason County Cancer Benefit (MCCB) is an annual fundraiser for residents of Mason County who are actively seeking cancer treatment and their follow-up visits. Monies raised are deposited in the MCCB Fund. The Mason County Cancer Fund is made up by Mason County Cancer Benefit committee members and the Ministerial Alliance. This is a non-profit fund and all members volunteer their time in the fundraising efforts and monthly meetings. This means that the money raised in Mason County for this effort, stays in Mason County! The only money disbursed out is an annual donation to the American Cancer Society for $2,500.00. They are a huge supporter of our NEW Mason County Cancer Resource Room.
The MCCB Resource Room is located in the Historical Building, in the room with the Driver’s License staff, but is open free to the public every day with the hours of the Historical building. The American Cancer Society (ACS) will have a staff member available one day a month to visit with. The day and time is not yet determined, however, there is an information board that ACS will update monthly, brochures are currently available, and information on different cancer-related topics are updated monthly. ACS has a computer with web site listings available to look up specific cancer information.
Saturday, April, 24th is the date of our annual benefit. It will begin at 10 a.m. at the Heritage Park. Survivors are encouraged to arrive at 9-9:30 to get their FREE t-shirt and be available for their special honor at the opening ceremony. The MCCB Resource Room will also be open that day.
If you would like to sponsor or form a team, now is the time to do so. We welcome church groups, civic organizations, families, and businesses to put together a team. The teams have lots of fun and at the same time help such a worthy cause.
In 2009, the Mason County Cancer Benefit assisted 19 Mason County individuals. We could not do this without a lot of community support and hard work. If you, a loved one, or if you know of someone who has cancer, please urge them to contact one of the committee members listed below.
