Local Artists Exhibit Work in Brownwood
Wednesday, February 24, 2010 • Posted February 24, 2010

Dorrett Townsend and Robin E. Clark, both of Mason, recently exhibited their artwork in Brownwood’s "12th Annual Stars of Texas" juried show, February 7-20.

The show’s juror, John Hartley, an Assistant Professor of Art at UT Arlington, selected 119 works for the show from the 356 pieces entered. Artists were each allowed to submit three entries. Townsend had all three of her entries accepted and Clark had two.

At the reception and awards ceremony on February 6th, Clark (who holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from Texas Tech) was given a cash award, sponsored by Stanley Dodge of Brownwood, for her photographic work entitled, "Marked." Asked to provide an artist’s statement for display next to her work, Clark wrote: "’Marked’ is a mildly surrealistic piece in which the rather soft, ghostly presence of the main figure is deliberately contrasted against the harsh pattern of a wallpaper-like background. Unexpectedly seeing the pattern fade and flow across and through the woman’s image, will hopefully cause viewers to momentarily stop and ponder the meaning of such a portrayal."

Both Townsend and Clark are charter members of the Fine Arts Association of the Hill Country, based in Mason, and Townsend currently serves as its Vice-President.
