Participants traveled far and wide( Abilene, Brady, Junction, Mason, Ft. Davis, Houston, Spring Branch and San Angelo) to have the opportunity to be a part of the FAAHC workshop sponsoring Warren Taylor, head of Midland College Art Department. His introduction to water soluble pencils and crayons gave all of us a new way to experience watercolors.
The class began with talks, demonstrations and then experiments with the medium. The materials are mobile, fast and enjoyable producing strong vivid colors. Warren kept us entertained throughout the workshop with his great sense of humor!!
The second day brought more emphasis on the versatility of the medium, technical twist and approaches followed by an opportunity for artist to work on their own ideas. Aside from teaching art for 30 years, Warren is a producing artist. Over the course of his career he has exhibited in over two hundred exhibitions. Participants were able to view some of the work he has produced using water soluble pencils and crayons.
To say the class was a success, well, everyone was asking where and when his next workshop would be held. When he said Myrtle Beach, South Carolina! We all pulled out our cell phones to make hotel and flight reservations – we’re all hoping he’ll make a trip back to Mason.
