We at Gems of the Hill Country want to send our thanks to everyone that supported Texas Topaz Day. Missy Gibbs at the Mason Chamber of Commerce did a wonderful job of helping publicize our event. Mason County News and KNEL radio also helped spread the word. We have no idea if this community will ever embrace Texas Topaz Day in a big way, but it was wonderful to feel folks at our backs.
People came from as far away as Dallas to help us celebrate our unique event. Our store was full of gem faceters, gem dealers and rockhounders, as well as those that just love our topaz. All of the faceters also extend their thanks to the Mason community that supports rockhounding in our county. The rockhounders and Mason land owners make it possible for us to create beautiful state gems.
As president of the Texas Faceters’ Guild, I’ve had the opportunity to meet many of the small number of people who facet in this state. It is very obvious that gem faceters across Texas love Mason County topaz, and love to facet them into star cuts. It’s our unique way of sharing our Texas heritage. All of the gem faceters that were here on Texas Topaz Day were grateful to be able to celebrate our topaz last Saturday here in Mason, and they all had a great time. We thank you very much.
