Regional Academic Contests to be held April 23rd

Mason High School is advancing 15 students to Regional in academic competitions to be held in Brenham on April 23rd. MHS students scored 244 point at the district meet held in Center Point on March 27th. Students placing 1st through 3rd will compete at regional and those placing 4th will advance as alternates.

MHS Students placing included:

Feature Writing-Paden Hemphill-5th

Headline Writing-Mackenzie Mitchell 1st and Havana Schmidt 4th

Informative Speaking-Jenny Smith 1st, Dyllan Hofmann 2nd ,and Matt Clark 5th

LD Debate-Matt Clark 3rd

Literary Criticism- Michael McGowan 3rd and

Literary Criticism Team- 2nd Place Advancing Team: McGowan, Rachel Collette, Yolanda Gonzales, and Amanda Hudson

News writing: Miriah Kidd 2nd

Persuasive Speaking: Alex Martinez 4th

Poetry: Ellie Blair 2nd, Bianca Jaquez 3rd, Myles Banner 4th

Prose: Tie for first place: Star Longoria and Jenny Smith, Amber Herrera 6th

Ready Writing-Havana Schmidt 1st

Spelling and Vocabulary: Havana Schmidt 2nd and Samantha Jordan 6th

Mason Speech Team finished 1st while the Spelling and Vocabulary and Literary Criticism Teams ranked second.

Coaches for advancing students include: Glendene Underwood, Kelly Guice, Gay Nesloney. Jacki Maenius worked with all oral reading students.

Monday 19 Boys and Girls Golf

Tuesday 20 Boys and Girls Golf

Wednesday 21 Boys and Girls Tennis

Thursday 22 Boys and Girls Tennis

Friday 23 UIL Literary - Prose, Poetry, Informative Speaking, Spelling, Persuasive Speaking, Feature Writing, Headline Writing, Ready Writing, LD Debate, and Literary Criticism
