To the Editor:
Mr. Beaulieu said it all in his editorial on the wind energy scam. The wind energy industry had its origins with Enron, is supported completely by federal tax credits, and is primarily comprised of subsidiaries of subsidiaries of large global corporations. Gee. After what we have just gone through with our economy, what does that suggest to you? Can you spell AIG? Citibank? Bear Sterns?
Mason County should be turning these con med around at the county line and sending them on their way with a clear message of "do not return". Don’t let the chants of "property rights!!" fool you. These wind prospectors are wolves in sheep’s clothing and will destroy more property rights than can be imagined . I fully support the right of land owners, including myself, to make stupid decisions regarding land use. But when those decisions result in significant, tangible loss to others, those rights stop. This is called accountability, the other side of the property rights coin.
Industrial wind development in Mason County is a bad deal from top to bottom. It is smoke and mirrors and a scam on the public. Its future will ultimately go the way of shifts in the political wind because it cannot stand on its own. It will be just one more entity draining our economy with little in the way of significant impact on greenhouse gases or energy production. Lets hope Mason County, indeed all of the Hill Country, keeps the scourge of wind turbines out.
