The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, April 20th, for its monthly business meeting. There were 36 members and 2 visitors in attendance.
Lion Pat Reardon was responsible for the program and introduced Dr. Robert Lawry who spoke about knives, the Randall Fighting knife, especially. Randall made knives were carried by combat soldiers starting with World War II and are still used by the military. Randall also makes other types of knives, but they are all hand-made, one at a time and the waiting period for one is four years.
Dr. Lawry showed several knives he had collected and told the history of each.
The Lions will have a Hamburger Lunch, Friday April 30th on the West side of the Courthouse Square.
The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, April 27th, at noon at Zavala's. The program will be Van Rea.
The Mason Lions has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
