The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, April 27th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 38 members and no visitors in attendance.
Lion Van Rea was responsible for the program and introduced Dr. John Davis who spoke about his book "Exploration in Texas". Dr. Davis told what he called "FACTS", about explorations and documented evidence that there were explorers in what is now North American as early as the 1300's. This is 100 years before Columbus is credited with discovering America. These explorers were mainly Chinese and they called this the Far East because they traveled by ship west across the Pacific Ocean. Their maps marked the Rocky Mountain Range and peaks down into Texas to the Rio Grande River. Dr. Davis gave a very interesting program and gave a lot of information he has obtained in his years of study of history.
The Lions Club will have its Mop and Broom Sale June 2nd, so get your list ready for this annual event.
The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, May 4th, at noon at Zavala's. The program will be the monthly business meeting.
The Mason Lions has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
