It’s a beautiful day to take a ride through the countryside and see the flowers. The red and yellow flowers are taking over and seem to spread into the fields. The little rain last Friday night has kept everything fresh and these cool nights are so great for sleeping. Enjoy the week.
The St. Paul Lutheran Handbell Choir blessed us with their beautiful music as they played "Havah Nagilah" (Let Us Rejoice) for the Prelude. Their special music added so much to the service. And we are pleased to have two of our members, Nancy Jordan and Vondell Jordan, as members of the choir. Thanks for the great bell playing.
Lois Durst will celebrate her birthday on May 7th. Have a very special day.
It was great to see Pearl Leifeste in church with her daughter Lindith Kuhne and her husband Jay.
Remember that next Sunday is also Mother’s Day.
Prayers were requested for Barbara Krause’s Uncle George who has colon cancer. Also pray for Matt Krause as he nears the end of his schooling in Chicago. Marge Boyd asked for healing prayers for their granddaughter Danny. Continue to pray for Andrew Kothmann, Anna Grace Durst and Pearl Leifeste.
Rev Krause preached on "A Love That’s For Everyone" using the reading from Acts 11:1-18. The news that the Gentiles had accepted and welcomed the Word of God, the doctrine concerning the attainment through Christ of salvation in the Kingdom of God, was heard with astonishment by the brethren throughout Judea. And when Peter went to Jerusalem, certain Jewish Christians found fault with him, asking: "Why did you go to uncircumcised men and even eat with them"? So Peter then explained to them the events as they had occurred.
Peter was in Joppa praying and he fell into a trance and saw a vision of something like a huge sheet coming down from Heaven being held by the four corners. In the sheet were a variety of four-footed animals and wild beasts and reptiles and birds. And a vice said to Peter: "Get up, Peter: kill and eat".
But Peter said "No, by no means, Lord, for nothing common or unhallowed or unclean has ever entered my mouth".
And the voice from Heaven again spoke: "What God has cleansed and pronounced clean, do not you defile and profane by calling it unclean or common". This occurred again three times and then all was drawn up again into Heaven.
Then, the three men sent from Caesarea arrived and the Holy Spirit instructed Peter to go immediately with the men into a man’s house. The man told them how he had seen an angel in his house and it stood and told him to send men to Joppa and bring Simon who is surnamed Peter. He continued saying that Peter will give and explain to you a message by which you and all of your household will be saved from eternal death.
Peter began to speak and the Holy Spirit fell on them and Peter recalled the declaration that the Lord had given that: "John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit". And Peter told them that if God gave to them the same Gift as He gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was he to and by what power was he to interfere or withstand God.
When the Jews heard this they were quieted and glorified God and agreed that God had also granted to the Gentiles the repentance unto real life after resurrection.
Yes, our great God is available to everyone. Jesus Christ loves all of us and He died for us. We celebrate His love with Holy Communion. Trust God and be truly blessed. Love God and everyone.
