Mary Shearer Eckert of Mason County will be holding a booksigning for the general public on May 14th, starting at 7:00 p.m., at the River of Live Church.
Eckert will be speaking about and will be available to sign copies of her biography of Peaches Evans, Where Was God When I Cried?
While growing up in the segregated south of the 1950s, Voncil ‘Peaches’ Evans asked herself many times, Where Was God When I Cried? Join author Mary Shearer Eckert as she tells the story of Peaches, from a time not so long ago, a time of forced racial separation interwoven with blind acceptance and incestuous evil. Facing insurmountable odds, she clings to her tattered faith and will to survive like a lighthouse calling her through the storm.
Eckert graduated from Junction High School in 1971, Uvalde Jr. College in 1972, and Schriener College School of Nursing in 1980. She has served as a nurse for 20 years. A Texas native, she resides in Mason County, where she is a Sunday school teacher at River of Life Church, and also volunteers as a worker for the Moms in Touch program.
