Martinez Places 5th at State Meet
Wednesday, May 19, 2010 • Posted May 19, 2010

AJ Martinez shot 82 and was sitting in a tie for 8th place after a shaky first round at the State Golf Tournament in Austin last week. Playing in strong wind gusts didn’t help AJ’s pre-morning nerves and it took awhile for AJ to settle down and get down to business.

By this time, AJ turned the front with a 42 and finished the back nine holes a little stronger with a 40. Day two started with calmer winds but by the end of the round the winds started kicking up again. AJ bogeyed his first two holes and took a nasty double on the third hole. After making a few adjustments, AJ proceeded to play his last 15 holes two over par to finish the day with a 78.

AJ’s score was good enough to move him up three places and he tied for 5th place in the Class A State Golf Tournament. AJ is a Jr. and I look forward to returning back to Austin with you next year.
