Wednesday, May 19, 2010 • Posted May 19, 2010

The Texas Bar Association recently approved a grant for Bluebonnet CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Mason, Menard, McCulloch and Kimble Counties with the hope of recruiting and training more volunteers.

Bluebonnet CASA volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children in the court system.

The Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $9 million in grants to law-related programs since its beginning in 1965. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, it is the nations largest charitably funded bar foundation.

Volunteers for Bluebonnet CASA received an initial 33 hours of training before being sworn in by the Judge. They are provided with continuing education opportunities throughout their service with Bluebonnet CASA. They also receive guidance, direction and support from staff.

In 2009 Bluebonnet CASA advocates served 53 children in Mason, McCulloch, Menard and Kimble Counties in Central Texas. Volunteers are assigned to one case at a time. It is the mission of Bluebonnet CASA to provide a volunteer advocate to every child.
