Chamber Welcomes New Pet Business to Square
Wednesday, June 9, 2010 • Posted June 9, 2010

Reigning Cats & Dogs, 120 Moody St., will be open for business as of Wednesday, June 9th. Owned by Lenore Newsom, a Mason "transplant", it offers retail pet supplies, including food, treats, toys, crates, beds, gift items, clothing, Halloween costumes (Old Yeller Days is coming up!), and much, much more. Grooming appointments and boarding reservations can be made by calling 325-347-1700, and we are also signing people (and dogs) up for obedience classes.

Lenore got her first dog (a miniature poodle) at age 10 with money she earned by raking leaves and shoveling snow. Since then she has worked as a veterinary assistant, a dog trainer, and a groom on a thoroughbred farm. She competed in competitive obedience with her toy poodle, Shameless, obtaining a Companion Dog title in 4 tries, with 2 placements. Lenore was a volunteer with Therapy Pet Pals of Austin for 15 years, taking her dogs to nursing homes, children’s shelters, and special events. She also trained other people and their pets to be therapy dogs, and was a pet evaluator as well. Her poodle, Annabelle, was volunteer of the year with Pet Pals, Shivers Radiation Center, and Austin Children’s Shelter (what a dog!).

Lenore owned Bed & Biscuit Kennel in Austin for 15 years, where they took care of 150 dogs and 30 cats (plus birds, frogs, ferrets, and a duck) over Christmas one year. Needless to say, since Lenore admits to aging less than gracefully, she hopes Reigning Cats & Dogs will be more her speed at this stage of her life, as is Mason.

Lenore has lots of experience in dog behavior and encourages everyone in Mason to stop by, say hi, or call if you have any questions about problem behavior or skin and coat care. Our hours will be Tuesdays through Fridays 10 AM - 5 PM, and Saturdays 10 AM - 4 PM. Grooming and boarding is by appointment, and we can work with almost anybody’s schedule - another bonus of a small town! Our official Grand Opening will be Friday June 11th, and refreshments will be served. Hope to see you (and your pets) at Reigning Cats & Dogs, where your pets are treated like royalty!
