Grace Christian School Attends ORU Christian School Finals Competition

Twelve students from Grace Christian School attended the Christian School Finals Competition held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the Oral Roberts University campus May 23rd through May 28th. About 500 students from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Mexico, Guatemala, Columbia, and El Salvador participated in the events. During the week the students were challenged to "Be the Message by living a life reflective of Jesus’ character." Christian speakers and praise and worship leaders encouraged the students to allow God to reveal areas in their lives that could use an adjustment.

Additionally, the students competed in events from five categories – Academics, Athletics, Art, Drama and Public Speaking, and Music.

Placing for Grace Christian School team events were as follows:

ACADEMICS: 1st Biological Science Project (Haylee Burton, K.C. Coleman, Bailee Everett), 1st Engineering Science Project (Logan Davel, McKenna Johnson), 2nd Academic Bowl (Jeffrey Burton, K.C. Coleman, Gabe Jennings, Colt Lyons, Chama Martin), 2nd On-Site Engineering Challenge (J. Burton, G. Jennings, C. Lyons).

ATHLETICS: 1st Boys Golf (J. Burton, K.C. Coleman, G. Jennings, C. Lyons, Levi Miller), 1st Girls Golf (H. Burton, B. Everett, C. Martin, Sierra Martin, M. Johnson), 3rd Girls 400-M Relay (B. Everett, C. Martin, S. Martin, M. Johnson), 3rd Girls 800-M Relay (B. Everett, C. Martin, S. Martin, M. Johnson), 4th Boys 800-M Relay (C. Anderson, J. Burton, G. Jennings, C. Lyons).

DRAMA: 1st Puppets (J. Burton, G. Jennings, C. Lyons, S. Martin), 3rd Original Dialogue (J. Burton, C. Lyons), 5th Dialogue (H. Burton, B. Everett).

Individual event placings were as follows: Chris Anderson – 3rd String Solo without a Bow, 6th Boys 1600-M Run, 6th Interactive Web Design; Haylee Burton – 2nd Fashion Sketches, 5th Discus, 6th Photo Journalism, 6thShot Put, Jeff Burton – 2nd Poetry Writing, 3rd Constitution/Government Challenge, 6th Geography Challenge; K.C Coleman – 1st Oil Painting, 3rd Calligraphy, 5th 100-M Dash; Logan Davel – 3rd Boys Tennis Singles; Bailee Everett – 1st Banner Construction; Gabe Jennings – 1st Essay Writing, 1st Long Jump, 1st Still Life Photography, 4th Literature Challenge, 4th 200-M Dash, 5th Animal Photography, 6th Math Challenge; McKenna Johnson – 3rd Illustrated Storytelling, 5th 200-M Dash, 6th Natural Photography; Colt Lyons – 3rd Percussion Solo, 6th Mixed Media Art; Chama Martin – 6th Monologue; Sierra Martin – 3rd Landscape Photography, 3rd Poetry Recitation, 6th Architectural Photography; Levi Miller – 2nd Discus, 3rd Heavy Weight Lifting, 3rd Individual (Golf), 4th Shot Put.

Haylee Burton was also honored with a Show Case performance for her Original Vocal Composition, and the puppet team consisting of Jeff Burton, Gabe Jennings, Colt Lyons, and Sierra Martin was chosen to Show Case its puppet skit.

Fritz Landers, Gay Renfroe, Crystal Lyons, and John Coleman accompanied the students to ORU. The GCS students greatly appreciate all who assisted them by attending the competition, helping them complete their projects, coaching various activities, and providing monetary support through donations, the bake sale, and the annual cookie sale. Without the support of these individuals, the students could not have represented Grace Christian School and Mason so well.
