Making a Joyful Noise
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 • Posted June 30, 2010

The first-ever Joyful Noise Celebration sparked such enthusiasm within the community that organizers have decided to make it a yearly event. This year’s beneficiaries were Casa Care after school program and The Haven, which provides a refuge for those suffering domestic abuse or sexual assault.

Those offering their talents included Crystal Lyons, Jerialice Arsenault, Bill Cotter and Jenny Taylor; familiar to many in Mason and the surrounding area.

The lyrics of a number performed by Life Song spoke of hope, "...there is hope for the helpless, rest for the weary, love for the broken heart; grace and forgiveness, mercy and healing - to meet you wherever you are..."

There is indeed hope and those of us who are more fortunate must reach out a hand to lift up those who are less so.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMS:

Casa Care is a non-profit organization which provides after school care for pre-k through fifth grade students in McCulloch County. Children attending the facility receive help with homework as well as a nutritious snack. Director Martha Thompson welcomes calls at 325-597-6058.

The Haven serves McCulloch, Menard and Mason counties. Director Donna Jones said that since 2001, the center has served 1800 clients in the three county region. Among the sad statistics are these: 47 percent of all Texans have personally experienced family violence; 31 percent of all Texans have been severely abused either physically or sexually and approximately 60 percent of family violence cases involve substance abuse. Abuse is not gender specific; five percent of all abused adults are men.
