The 46th annual Mason County Parade will begin at 10 a.m. immediately followed by the Great American Jackass Race. There will be arts and crafts vendors, food, live entertainment, Billy Bingo Contest, Car Shows and as always, shopping and dining on the Historic Downtown Square. Don’t forget to attend the Open Rodeo event produced by Lester Meier on July 10th starting at 7:30pm followed by Jake Hooker and the Outsiders. Tickets will be available at all the Mason area banks and the Chamber office soon.

Mason Rodeo Association will once again have the Mason County Youth Barrel Race on Saturday, July 10th at 7:30 p.m., prior to the rodeo.

The barrel race is open to Mason County youth 14 and and under who are enrolled in Mason Schools. The buckle is being sponsored by Lex Lehmberg Goats.

July 10th is the date for the 8th annual Mason Open Car Show, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Park.

Once again it will be a top 20 format, with additional awards for the best of show, and people’s choice. Again this year we are asking for a donation of 2 canned food items for the Mason County Food bank. The event is free for all spectators.

There is still lots of time to get the old car out of the barn, and get ready for the show. Your hosts for this event are Rick Smith 347-0202 and Jim Boies 347-5443, Please call for additional information or if you would like to be a trophy sponsor.

On July 10th, immediately following the parade, (which starts at 10am) the race will begin to see who the Great American Jackass winner will be. The 1st place winner will receive $750! This year we will also have a very special contestant. The Chamber held The Best Jack (or Jackette) In Town contest to see who would have the great honor of dressing up in donkey gear and entering the race themselves on foot. The person who received this honor is the one that received the most pledges from their friends and family. The winner is named elsewhere in the newspaper this week! The monies received for the contest will be used to promote the local community.

The Chamber has ordered new t-shirts for Round-Up Rodeo weekend. We will have them for sale for only $10.00 at our Round-Up booth on the Mason Courthouse Square. We will also have Mason County wickless soy candles for $7.50 and donkey ears to amp up the Jackass Race celebration for only $1.00. Come by and see us!

Don’t worry about finding a place for all of your friends and family to sleep during Round-Up Rodeo Weekend. We have over 43 lodging facilities in the area. Visit our lodging button at www.masontxcoc.com or call me at the Chamber at 325-347-5758 for a list of lodging facilities.

I hope that everyone is having a great week and enjoying their summer!
