In spite of Mother Nature’s best efforts, the 8th Annual Mason Open Car Show was a big success. There were 70 vehicles in attendance, from as far away as Abilene; car clubs included the Lake Area Rods & Classics from Burnet and the Mustang Owners Club of Austin.
The entry fee for this event was 2 canned food items for the Mason Co. food bank. Canned entries totaled enough items to fill the bed of a vintage pickup and approximately $140 in cash was also donated.
We would like to thank these individuals and businesses for their generosity in sponsoring the trophies for this event. Mason Building Supply, Gary Hahn, First State Bank, Watson Auto Parts, Mason Volunteer Fire Department (2), Charlie Reichenau (2), Short Stop(2), and Nu-Way (2) were the Top Twenty sponsors. The Peoples Choice trophy was sponsored by The Commercial Bank, and The Best of Show was sponsored by The Mason National Bank. Watson Auto Parts donated a camera that was also given to the best of show winner.
We would also like to thank William and Patricia Beatty for their help with the antique gas pump trophies and the labels for them. Local winners included Bobby Scantlin’s 1934 Ford, Thom Frazier’s 1956 Chevrolet, Lee Page’s 69 Chevrolet Pickup, Gary Page’s 68 Mustang Fastback, and Clay Lindsay’s 1968 Cadillac Hearse won the people’s choice award. The Best of Show award went to the 1957 Chevrolet owned by Kenneth McCoy from Abilene.
