Smiles on Wheels Mason-Bound!

Our community will soon be the lucky recipient of a much-needed gift! If you live in pain and have no other access to dental care, suffer from low self-esteem because of your smile OR if your business suffers from lost employee work days due frequent toothaches, the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation is coming to your rescue.

Their program, Smiles on Wheels, is a travelling dental clinic which unloads and sets up in a local venue. Between 10-14 portable dental operatories are assembled to help rural communities which would not typically be able to host one of their larger dental mission events. These single day missions partner with churches, social clubs, and other advocacy and human service organizations to provide first-level care to indigent populations in underserved counties in Texas.

Originally brought to fruition through the generosity of the Meadows Foundation, Smiles on travels across the state offering free cleanings, fillings, extractions, and other occasional limited dental services suitable to be performed in a mission environment. Smiles on Wheels Mason’s event has been largely funded through a grant from the Mason Community Foundation, and will be voluntarily staffed with generous Texas dentists and private citizens with an interest in their neighbors’ oral health. Over 100 volunteers will be needed to complete the event.

On Saturday, July 31st, the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation (TDASF) will be arriving in Mason County for a full day of this dental care to be provided at no cost to those who are in desperate need. Patients in the area are already being pre-registered and getting their primary exams to help the event get off to a strong start. Pre-registration by health and human services resources in the area identifies those deemed most needy, but a few walks ups will be able to be seen during the event as well.

By the close of July 31st, the TDASF hopes to have served 125+ patients, providing in excess of $100,000+ in charitable dental services to Mason.

If you are interested in a fun day of volunteering to help your neighbors, please log onto www.tdasf.org to sign up. We hope to have you working alongside us!
