Rice Named Academic All-State
Wednesday, July 28, 2010 • Posted July 28, 2010

Garrett Rice a six foot-one inch tall, 192 pound defensive back and wide receiver from Mason High School, has been selected as a First Team Defensive Back on the 2010 Texas Academic All-State Football Team. All candidates were nominated by their Head Coach and High School Counselor. Over 500 players who epitomize the consummate student athlete were evaluated by a committee that was under the direction of Randy Rodgers, recruiting analyst for Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. The players' 2009 highlight tape, game statistics, grade point average, and SAT test score were all taken into consideration.

The preseason first team honors included 22 players that represented all five classifications of Texas high school football. As always, the team was top heavy with several high profile recruits from the Houston and Dallas areas who have already pledged out to colleges prior to the 2010 season such as; Belton Ash (Texas), Ty Montgomery ( Stanford), Julius White (Rice), Taylor Chapel (Missouri), Jon Manziel (Oregon), and Jeremy Walsh (Oklahoma State). Walsh was also selected to attend the Elite 11 Showcase, which features the top 11 QB’s in the country.
