Editor:

I love the passion Mayor Hinckley brings to his article in the Mason News. I have reprinted it for Facebook and email dissemination in hopes that it might go viral.

These governmental entities have grown out of their borders and become monoliths against the will of the people. They put a soft-spoken and attractive face on their endeavors and utilize public meetings to lull us into believing they care. Nothing could be further from the truth.

We must join forces – not as residents of Mason County – but as residents of Texas, of the United States, to protect our way of life and our heritage. The land belongs not just to the owners, it belongs to all of us. Today we fight PUC, tomorrow it may be TXDOT or some other bureaucracy operating on our money.

If I were a fulltime resident of Mason County, I would donate my time to this cause. Now I can only send in my donation and let others carry the ball for me. But when the time comes, I stand ready to put myself between the bulldozers and our land. Maybe then we will be heard.
