The Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation (TDASF) is coming. In just a few days, Texas dentists, dental professionals and volunteers from all over the state will be converging on our city to help those of us in need of charity dental care.
Smiles on Wheels is a travelling dental program which will be setting up locally, bringing ~14 portable dental operatories to Mason on Saturday, July 31st. The event Dental Chair, Dr. Glenn Ruthven, said "Texas dentists are committed to the oral health and comfort of our citizens. The TDA Smiles Foundation is one of the ways that we can serve and educate our communities on the importance of dental care and its link to overall wellbeing."
The Smiles on Wheels program is just one of four programs facilitated by the TDASF, which also oversees the Texas Missions of Mercy, Texas Donated Dental Services and educational components including the Cavity Free Corral and Fluoride Fest. Our area’s program has been largely funded through a grant from the Mason Community Foundation, and will require over 100 volunteers to successfully execute. Pre-registration by health and human services resources has identified those patients deemed most needy, but some walks-ups will be able to be seen during the event as well.
By the end of Saturday, the TDASF hopes to have served 125+ patients, providing in excess of $100,000+ in charitable dental services. And there is still time to be a part of this great effort! Sign up to volunteer at www.tdasf.org.
