Editor,

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the people who participated in making our Smiles on Wheels event such a success.

With 57 volunteers from out of town and 91 local volunteers we were able to deliver $82,037 worth of dentistry without cost to 149 patients.

Obviously a certain amount of our success was due to the out of town dentist, hygienists, assistants, dental students, the people from the Smiles Foundation and others who traveled at their own expense to volunteer their time and service.

But without the tremendous work by our own local volunteers, the Smiles on Wheels event would not have been a success.

For fear of leaving someone out, I will not try to name all of our wonderful local volunteers. But I must acknowledge the Mason Community Foundation, The Commercial Bank, and the Mason National Bank for their help.

Also I would like to thank Mark Lehmberg, co-general chairman, and Judy Lehmberg for all their invaluable work.

Thanks also goes to Bruce Fowler and his crew for having breakfast ready at 5:00 AM for all volunteers, Dr. Pepper for providing drinks for patients and volunteers, the Lutheran ladies for preparing food for the patients and volunteers, Patrick and Teresa Weber for providing all the ice we needed, the Ministerial Alliance for being instrumental in getting the word out to our perspective patients, Sherry Alexander and the ladies from our clinic and home health services for their specialized work in screening patients, and St. Paul Lutheran Church for letting us use their facility.

If you helped and do not see your name in the above accolades, rest assured your efforts are not forgotten and are very much appreciated.

Everyone associated with the Texas Dental Association's Smiles Foundation and the participants from the Mason Community should be very proud of their efforts in making our Smiles on Wheels a success.

Sincerely,

Glenn A. Ruthven
