Rita L. Grosse passed away at her home in Mason on July 5, at the age of 93.

Rita was born on January 3, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois, to Emelio Lenzi and Leonetta Pari Lenzi. She was raised in Chicago. She married Vernon Elslager and after his death she married William Richard (Billy Dick) Grosse.

Rita spent most of her adult life on military bases with her first husband. She met Billy Dick at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. They were married there in 1972 and made their home in Mason where they were members of the First United Methodist Church. Rita was an avid reader and in earlier years an active member of the Mason Tennis Association. She had a sharp mind and a quick wit to go with an outgoing and irrepressible personality. One always knew where they stood with Rita.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Vernon Elslager and Billy Dick Grosse, and her son Brad Elslager.

She is survived by her daughter Judy and Bob Zagata of Brownsville, Mark and Carolyn Grosse of Port Aransas, and Brock and Sandra Kay Grosse of Seguin. Her grandchildren are Trent Townsend and Nikki Zagata of Brownsville, Dustin and Hailey Grosse of San Antonio, and Sumer Jane Grosse of Seguin. Her great-grandchildren are Sienna Zagata and Avery Jane Grosse.

A memorial service in Rita’s honor was held on Saturday, August 7th at the First United Methodist Church.

Memorials in her honor may be made to the Mason Tennis Association or to the First United Methodist Church.
