A lot of people spent Monday morning covering school books for the Elementary and Junior High School students. They are always excited on the first day of school and really appreciate the perfectly covered books.

Rev. Krause’s sermon topic was "Stand Up and Walk With Jesus". The Gospel lesson was from Luke13:10-17. A woman, bent over by an infirmity caused by the devil, came to hear Jesus teach in the synagogue. When Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said "Woman, you are released from your infirmity!" He laid His hands on her and instantly she was made straight. She rejoiced and thanked and praised God.

But the leader of the synagogue was indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. He said that there were six days that could be used for healing, but not on the Sabbath.

The Lord replied to him, saying: You Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead it out to water?" And likewise, ought this woman be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath after eighteen years of suffering? And the opposition was put to shame and they rejoiced over all the things Jesus had done.

There were four actors in this scripture: The synagogue leader, the woman, the crowd and Jesus. The leader of the synagogue was a hypocrite, saying that no work should be done on Sunday but his donkey needed water on every day.

The woman with the ailment must have sinned greatly to get her illness. She had suffered eighteen years but Jesus healed her in an instant. She praised God and put her faith in Him.

The crowd was in the synagogue, worshiping the Lord. Jesus caring for the woman with pure love and with pure wisdom and compassion, healed her immediately. The crowd praised the Lord for His compassion.

Jesus knew what was doing to happen. He knows all things. He made the choice to heal her.

We all have many choices to make – some good and some bad. We are free to make choices. Choose to help others, to love and help your neighbors. Choose to study God’s word.

Jesus loves all of us all of the time and eventually, we will wake up with Him leading us into eternal life.

Walk with God now - today.
