Looking for a Place to Hold a Get Together . . . Consider the Peter’s Prairie Schoolhouse
Wednesday, August 25, 2010 • Posted August 25, 2010

The Peter’s Prairie School Community Association offers a place to hold reunions, parties, showers, meetings and the likes. The nearly 100 year old Peter’s Prairie Schoolhouse is ready for use. It is located 10.5 miles north of Mason - just half a mile south the intersection of US Hwy. 87 and Ranch Road 1222 at Camp Air, Texas.

The building has approximately 1725 square feet of space inside and is handicap friendly. The front entrance is a narrow ramp and the original cement steps. The south entrance has a wonderful wide wooden ramp and deck which joins the restrooms to the school building. There is about 2 acres of parking area.

For seating, there are 14 - 6’ tables and 75+ chairs. To keep things cold, two large 120 qt. Cooler carts are available to keep food and/or drinks on ice. To keep food hot, there are two electric roasters and two crock pots, and a microwave in the food service area. There are also two coffeepots (12 & 30 cup) and a three gallon beverage dispenser for tea or punch.

In the summer when days are hot and sultry, there are three portable air conditioners and three tower fans to keep everyone comfortable. To keep electrical costs to a minimum, the air conditioners will only be used when temperatures make it too uncomfortable without them. The units will go into storage when pleasant temperatures return. Most days, the school is cooled nicely by opening the 20 windows which allow ever-present breezes to pass through.

In the winter, the two original wood stoves will be used to warm the building. If it happens to become unusually cold there is a portable heater for use in addition to the wood stoves.

The PPSCA will allow use of the building and facilities "by donation". Person(s) will be required to clean the building before use and required to return the building "as good as" it was when they were given possession of the key. If renting by donation doesn’t prove feasible, then the PPSCA directors will implement a deposit and rental fee.
