Sue Kaan to Present at Llano Fine Arts Guild
Wednesday, September 1, 2010 • Posted September 1, 2010

Llano Fine Arts Guild is pleased to present Sue Kaan as our artist for the September program. This will be a "hands on" demo and Sue will be our guide on this journey, giving us her wisdom. Sue has always been interested in art and creative expression of all kinds. Her parents encouraged her to paint, sew and otherwise expand her horizons. Kaan has taken various art classes over the years, protrait painting, landscape, still life. At that time she was using oil paints as her medium.

During her 20 years as an antique dealer, she refinished her own furniture, and became interested in 1800’s "false graining techniques". Sue experimented with various painted finishes on trunks, furniture, etc. She began painting "primitive" portraits, and also made reproduction gameboards on old wood. In the last few years, having moved to the Hill Country, she became inspired by the cactus in the countryside outside her home. She began taking pictures of cactus at all times of the year, in different light, and different stages of their growth; cactus have a beauty all their own. She captures the rugged, determined-to-hold-on, feel of cactus. She truly enjoys painting and says that she never knows what she will be drawn to next!

Sue now paints with acrylic paint on canvas or board, as it seems the right medium for her impulsive efforts. She feels grateful to be able to live in a place that she loves and to do what she loves to do, which is creating art.

The demo will begin at 10 AM on Monday September 13, 2010. This is a "hands on" program, which means all of us will be able to participate. Most supplies will be furnished, however we suggest the you bring your favorite "old" brushes to paint with, paper towels, wear an apron or old shirt over your good clothes!!!! Come ready to learn and have fun and meet others like yourselves!!!!!

The gallery is located at 305 Bessemer, next to Chrissy’s Bakery. A "pot luck" lunch will follow the program Our regular monthly guild meeting will follow lunch. A $5 donation covers both the demo and the potluck lunch. We encourage the public to attend, come to learn and stay for the food and friendship. We are looking forward to seeing you.
