Old Yeller Day October 2nd
Wednesday, September 1, 2010 • Posted September 1, 2010

Mark your calendars for Old Yeller Day scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd. The tradition continues with a Dog Parade beginning at 10:00 am to march, trot, run or walk around the Courthouse Square. Everyone is welcome to participate! There will also be four contests for our canine friends to enter if you wish. They are: Best Dressed Pooch, Best Old Yeller Look-alike, Best Dog/Owner Look-alike, and Best Doggie Trick. First, second, and third place winners will be announced for all 4 contests. Prizes will be graciously donated by Reigning Dogs & Cats, owned by Lenore & Tommy Newsom.

Follow the end of the parade over to Heritage Park for continuing festivities! A pie-baking contest will also be in action for all those who wish to enter their award-winning pies. We can’t wait to taste them! No event would be complete without food and of course we will be serving hot-dogs, chili-dogs, and corny-dogs. Games, relays, and races will be running for all the kids and demonstrations for public participation will include a "hands-on" booth to make your own homemade doggie treats. Also, the movie, Old Yeller, will be showing at our Odeon Theater during Old Yeller Day. We promise lots of fun and live music for you to enjoy. Bring your friends & families to honor our native, Fred Gipson, author of our beloved "Old Yeller".
