The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, August 31st, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 38 members and 2 visitors in attendance.

Lion Thom Canfield was responsible for the program and introduced Shanda Schmidt who spoke about the Mentoring Program at the Mason Schools. Shanda said a mentor is a teacher, a guide, a role model and best of all, a special friend. Mentors inspire students to try harder and set goals. They help a student to develop a greater self knowledge and a level of self-esteem that brings about a sense of feeling good about himself or herself. If you think this could be for you contact Shanda at the School or Barbara Pluenneke.

The club's next meeting will be Tuesday, September 7th, at noon at Zavala's. The program will be the monthly business meeting.

The Mason Lions has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
