Mason JV beats Junction 22-6

On September 2 the Mason Punchers welcomed the Junction Eagles to the Puncherdome for the Punchers home opener of the year. The Punchers did not disappoint the home crowd.

Mason used big plays on defense and an offense that wore down the Eagles to improve their record to 2-0 on the year. The first huge play came early on Junction’s opening drive. Jordan Pitcox stripped the Junction running back of the ball and scampered down the field 50 for the game’s first score. The Punchers executed a fake field goal for the PAT with a pass from Raul Silguero to Zane Simon to set the score at 8-0.

Mason then forced a Junction punt and drove down the field for another score. This time quarterback Elliot Bibb connected with Cody Wood for a 10 yard touchdown pass. Bibb also picked off a pass to thwart a Junction drive early in the 2nd quarter.

Emilio Palacio returned the 2nd half kickoff to the 44 yard line to set up the only Puncher score of the half. That came on a 14 yard rumble by fullback Taylor Meader. Meader, along with Brandon McGowen who had a sack and 3 tackles for a loss and Drigo Martinez who added a sack and forced fumble, were impact players for the Puncher defense.

The Puncher defense held Junction on a 4th down inside the 20 and stopped the Eagles again on 4th down late in the 4th quarter to ice the game. The Mason JV will travel to Comfort Thursday to take on the Bobcats at 7:30.
