Old Yeller Day Coming October 2nd
Wednesday, September 15, 2010 • Posted September 15, 2010

It’s time to break out the secret family recipes and tie on the apron because this year’s Old Yeller Day will feature a pie baking contest. Prizes will be awarded in two categories, "fruit filling" and "other". The pie and crust must be homemade. For addtional guidelines and yearlong bragging rights you will need to pick up an entry form at the Mason County Library, Chamber of Commerce or Reigning Cats & Dogs.

Join us for Old Yeller Day on Saturday, October 2nd at Heritage Park. The dog parade kicks off the event at 10:00 a.m. at Heritage Park. (Error: previously stated that parade would be around the Square.) There will be four categories to enter if you wish: Best-dressed pooch, Best Old Yeller look-alike, Best dog trick, and Best Owner/Dog look-alike. Prizes will be awarded for all the contests, courtesy of the "Reigning Cats & Dogs" store, owned by Lenore & Tommy Newsome. The public is welcome to attend and there is no entry fee. Entry forms are available at the Library, Reigning Cats & Dogs, and the Chamber.

Other festivities include lots of games for the kids, hand-on activities for the kids, live music, and of course, hot dogs. Old Yeller Day is sponsored by the Friends of the Library in honor of Fred Gipson, author of Old Yeller. All proceeds benefit the Mason County Library.
