The Mason Punchers dedicated last week’s game to fullback Jacob Bibb, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. It was an emotional game, and the Punchers used their extra motivation to pull out a heart-warming 34-33 win over a talented Comfort team.
Mason’s top performer that night was RB David Mora, a junior who is quickly making his name known as one of the top rushers in Class 1A. Mora rushed for 258 yards and four TDs in the win over Comfort, and it was his back-to-back fourth-quarter TDs that gave Mason the final lead.
Doing all that against Comfort, a much-bigger Class 2A school, is quite impressive. Mason is now 3-0 and is ranked No. 8 in TexasFootball.com’s Class 1A Division I top 10. Mason will have a bye this week before taking on Ingram Tom Moore on Sept. 24.
Mora responded to the community outpouring of support with the following message:
A THANK YOU TO MY COMMUNITY AND MY SCHOOLMATES
I would like to thank everyone who voted for me on Dave Campbell’s website as Texas Legend’s Gridiron Player of the Week. I am humbled by my communities’ response. I was told that people voted for me not only in Mason, but in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Austin and even at West Point. A special thank you goes to my teammates and coaches. We are not just a team, we are a family. We must not forget that: "There is no I in TEAM."
