The VFW Post 8554 has announced two essay contests that local students are encouraged to participate in this fall. The first contest, the Voice of Democracy essay contest, is open to all students in the 9th – 12th grades. This contest requires a written essay along with a DVD of the contestant reading his/her essay. Cash prizes are awarded to all winners, ranging from a $200 savings bond for the local winner up to a prize of a $10,000 savings bond for the national essay winner. Each state winner will receive a cash prize plus a free trip to Washington, DC to participate in the national essay contest.
Students in the 6th – 8th grades are invited to participate in the Patriot’s Pen essay contest, which requires a written essay for participation. Winners in the Patriot’s Pen contest will also receive savings bonds.
