The 7th grade traveled to Menard and took on Winters this past week. Winters lost no time in putting points on the board, as the they scored early in the first period then tacked on the PAT leaving the Punchers in their dust and leading 0-8. The Punchers had moments of good defensive play in the 2nd period. Note worthy play by Andy Gilley, Seth Hudson, Jacob Moreno, Jose Caldero, and Nick Martin held the Blizzards for most of the period. With less than three minutes remaining in the half Winters scored again but the PAT failed.

The Punchers knew they had to put together a drive in order to stay in the game. Offensive linemen went to work creating some good running lanes for running backs Garret Bibb, Samuel Dyer, Andy Gilley , and Seth Hudson. Hudson then scored on a 36 yard run on the QB keep. The PAT failed but the Punchers were on the scoreboard. Winters lost no time in scoring again before half and the Punchers found themselves in a deep hole and trailing 6-22.

Mason roared back after the break when Hudson scored on the QB power play from the 12 yard line. Garret Bibb tacked on the PAT and the Punchers trailed but only by the margin of 14-22.

Defense became the key ingredient for the Punchers at this point. Stand-outs included, Seth Brewer, James Durst, Luke Gillespie, Jacob Harris, and Tyler Mayfield. The Blizzards were turned back time and time again and the Punchers began to realize the importance of good defensive play in order to have a chance of a come-back.

As the 4th period ticked away, the Punchers finally regained possession and began a drive that took them to the Winters 19 yard line. Hudson then connected with Levi Hofmann on the throwback and score with only 16 seconds remaining in the contest. Hudson then pushed over the line for the all important point after which knotted the game 22-22.

We were really proud of our kids and their effort in this game. Everyone did a good job . Next week the Punchers will travel to Ingram for a 5:00 kick-off.
