On the evening of Wednesday, September 22, 2010, Donald B. Ziriax, left his earthly bonds and entered into his heavenly life, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 25, at the First United Methodist Church, Mason. Pastor Tim Fahrenthold officiated.

He was born at home in Mason, Texas, on September 2, 1926, the second child of John H. and Alma (Lehmann) Ziriax. Donald worked hard at many endeavors during his lifetime: cashier at Mason National Bank, an engineer for the Texas Highway Department in Mason, and manager of Walker Chevrolet, all while ranching until he was finally able to devote all his time to the land. He loved and respected the land, working it until only very recently, when his health forced his retirement. Donald was a man of many talents, the king of "making do with baling wire and duct tape" and his family will forever remember his beautiful brown eyes and his bright and always present smile.

Donald was a 1944 graduate of Mason high school. Upon graduation, he joined the U. S. Army and he was sent to the University of Arkansas for training in the engineering field. After two years, the war had ended and he was sent to join the Occupation Forces in the Pacific, serving in Japan. When he was discharged, Donald was a Sergeant in the 5th Air Force, 49th Fighter Group, 8th Fighter Squadron. On August 14, 1948, he married the love of his life, Patsy Marie Kothmann, and together they spent their lives working hard, dedicated to each other and raising their four children. Donald served his community as faithfully as he did his family. He was a sixty-three year member of the Masons of Texas, served in several offices and positions for the town and was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma Ziriax, his sister, Johnnie Louise Kothmann, and a great-granddaughter, London Ogle.

Surviving Donald is his wife of sixty-two years, Patsy, and his children, Donna Ziriax; Kathy McKay and husband, Don; Tim Ziriax; and Pat Ziriax and wife, Lisa. He also leaves his grandchildren, who called him "Papaw", Cara Ogle and husband, Todd; Julie Ziriax, Mandy McKay and fiancée Robert Murphy; Carrie Cole and husband, Jim; Will Ziriax, Jessica Hukee and husband, Nathan; Bobby Don Ziriax and wife, Donna; and Linsey Balmos and husband Scott; and six great-grandchildren, Hope, Rece, Kate, Ryder, Tessa and Elizabeth. He leaves behind many special friends, relatives, and a very special angel, his caregiver, Martha M. Neece. Pallbearers were his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
