The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, September 21st, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 32 members and 1 visitor in attendance.
Lion Michael Cope was responsible for the program and he introduced Spider Johnson who spoke about the Odeon Preservation Association. The O. P. A. is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization that works to preserve and maintain the Odeon Theater, the oldest continually operated movie theater in Texas. Since 1994, this group of volunteers, through fund raisers and donations, bought and remodeled the theater, with new seats, lighting, sound and projection systems. The theater is leased to Rebecca and Buddy Schuessler who show the movies and run the concession stand. There is not a cheaper movie ticket and concession stand at any movie theater I know of.
The club's next meeting will be Tuesday, September 28th, at noon at Zavala's. The program chairman will be Ken Cardero.
The Mason Lions has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
