Mason JV Throttles Ingram
Wednesday, September 29, 2010 • Posted September 29, 2010

On Thursday September 23, the Mason JV Punchers traveled to Ingram to take on the undefeated Ingram Tom Moore Warriors, a team that just dropped from 3A to 2A, in their 3

rd road game of the young season. The Punchers stood toe-to-toe with a much bigger squad and played like we are used to seeing them play. The defense, led by Brandon McGowen, Leret Hemphill, and Taylor Meador, physically beat up the Warriors on their first two drives and let Ingram know that they were in for a long night. After having to stop the Warriors on two possessions before getting the ball, the Punchers used one big play to get into scoring position. A long touchdown run was called back to the 30 after a penalty, but the Punchers pounded the running game into the end-zone a few plays later on a Raul Silguero 4-yard run. The extra point was blocked putting the score at 6-0. After a 4-and-out, the Punchers got the ball back and quickly scored with the air attack from Elliot Bibb to Cody Wood for a 36-yard touchdown pass. Emilio Palacio added the 2-point conversion and the score was 14-0. That score would stand going into halftime. Both offenses cooled in the 3rd quarter with neither team getting across the goal line. Heading into the 4th quarter, the Punchers knew they were in a dogfight and knew they had to finish strong. Silguero put the first points of the 4th quarter on the board when he rumbled 8 yards for the score. After holding Ingram on a 4th and 4, Mason put the game away on a Palacio 12 yard run. After the successful extra point, the score was 27-0 but the Punchers weren’t through playing football. Ingram went to the passing game but Logan Taylor did not let that happen. Taylor picked of the Warrior quarterback and set up Silguero, who broke another long run of 28 yards for the Puncher’s final score. The Warriors had to revert to shenanigans to put their only points. A swinging-gate, double-pass put Ingram on the board with 8 seconds left in the game. The final score was 34-8, Mason. The JV Punchers will travel to Baird on Thursday to take on the Olney Cubs. Game time is 7:30.
