Old Yeller Day is Saturday
Wednesday, October 3, 2007 • Posted October 3, 2007

Mason citizens and FOM (friends of Mason) - if your dog is WAY cuter or more talented than this one, then bring him or her to Old Yeller Days Pet Parade this Saturday, October 6th. There are prizes to be won, games to be played, hot dogs to be eaten, baked goods to be purchased, music to hear, an amazing trick dog act to be viewed, homeless pets to help, and much, much more. It all takes place in Heritage Park, 1 block south of the square, from 8:30 a.m. to 1p.m. The schedule of events is as follows:

8:30 a.m. - registration for Pet Parade and judging of 5 parade contests

9:00 a.m. - entries for bake-off due

9:30 a.m. - Pet Parade, led by Queen’s Court and Honeybee the Clown

Immediately following the parade there will be live music, Lacy Browning’s trained dog demonstration, awarding of prizes from the Pet Parade and bake-off, Riata’s bake sale, the off-imitated-but-never-duplicated apple bobbing and other games of skill for the kids, and food and drink sales.

Prizes for the parade contests will be gift baskets with items provided by The Wildlife Ranch, Bed & Biscuit Kennel in Austin, Super S Groceries, Dollar General, and Nutro Pet Foods, who have donated free dog food for a year. Categories for the contests are: Best Pet Costume, Pet-Owner Look-Alike, Old Yeller Look-Alike, Best Pet Trick, and Travis Look-Alike. Additionally, we will award ribbons for first through third place in all 4 bake-off categories, and all the games of skill will have prizes as well.

Barbie McGowan will have dogs from Mason’s animal shelter available for adoption, as well as a pet food drive, and Nutro Pet Foods reps will have coupons and samples available. Our goal is to fill Tommy Newsom’s vintage truck with dog food, blankets, dog houses, and cash to help our homeless pets. Mike from Super S has generously provided a donation spot at the front of the store as well, so if you don’t want to haul 50 lbs of dog food to Old Yeller Days, you can donate at Super S this week.

Old Yeller Days gets bigger and better every year, and this is no exception, so come early, stay late, and help make Old Yeller Days a success!
