The 2010 Mason County Farm Bureau annual convention will be held on Tuesday, October 12th at 6:00 p.m. at the Fort Mason Park Community Building. This year's guest speaker will be Vernie Glasson, III.

Vernie R. Glasson, III, was named Executive Director of Texas Farm Bureau in 1989, and serves as the Chief Operating Officer and Business Manager of Texas Farm Bureau and its Affiliated Companies.

A native of San Patricio County on the Texas Gulf Coast, he was raised on a cotton and grain farm. Vernie attended the first two Texas Farm Bureau Citizenship Seminars. He is a graduate of Texas A&I University in Kingsville and served with the U.S. Air Force in South Vietnam, prior to joining the staff of Texas Farm Bureau in 1973.

Vernie’s 36 + year Farm Bureau career includes service as Field Representative, Commodities Director, and as a lobbyist and Chief of Legislative Operations for both the Texas Farm Bureau and the American Farm Bureau Federation. Vernie was instrumental in the formation of Texas Farm Bureau’s political action program known as AGFUND, and in the creation of many Farm Bureau programs and services, including TFB’s pioneering financial services program that was the forerunner to what is now Farm Bureau Bank.

He has been honored by the Texas Agricultural Extension Specialists Association with the John E. Hutchison Extension Visionary Award for his support of Agricultural Extension, Education and Research, and he served on the Texas A&M Agriculture Program 21 Leaders Panel to help develop the vision for the future of A&M’s agriculture program.

Vernie and his wife, Ann, reside on a small farm in Coryell County west of Waco. They have 3 sons and 1 daughter, and seven grandchildren. Vernie is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, and has served on several Boards of Directors and Advisory Committees for Waco area civic and business groups.
