The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, September 28th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 38 members and 5 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were 2 Mason High School Seniors, Jenny Smith and Mackenzie Mitchell.
Lion Ken Cordero was responsible for the program and he introduced Chris Habecker, High School Principal who spoke about the Blue Ribbon Award that the High School received recently. Mason High School, along with two other public schools were chosen out of all public schools in the State of Texas to receive this award. Chris gave praise to not only the High School faculty, but also to the Jr. High and Elementary faculty and all the students who work so hard to achieve good grades and knowledge in their respective subjects. Lion Jack Lee received his 60 year pin from Lions International. A $1,000.00 check was presented to the Lions Club by the Mason Community Foundation for help with the expenses of the 5K/10K Walk-Run.
The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, October 5th, at noon at Zavala's. The program will be the monthly business meeting.
The Mason Lions has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
