Bat Cave Report
Wednesday, October 13, 2010 • Posted October 13, 2010

This last week has been a complete different experience for me from the prior four that I have served as The Eckert James River Bat Cave steward. Emergences had five bats one night and 500,000 a few nights later. Yes, we still have emergences, but the number we don’t know until the night in question. Even then, the question is not answered until you sit and wait to see what happens. It is like watching the weather...it may look like rain, but only the clouds know for sure.

We will have a big clean-up day on Saturday, October 16th, which is this Saturday. Plan to come and help or cheer us on. Anyone that would like to help out, please call the bat hotline at: 325-347-5970 and let me know. We will spend most of the day out there (or until we drop), so anytime for any length of time will be great. A lot can be accomplished with a lot of hands.

Right now, the few bats the we have are coming out anywhere from as early as 6:30 P.M. to as late as 8:00 P.M. It would be good to be at the preserve no later than about 6:15P.M. Remember, I cannot guarantee whether or not there will still be bats this week. Be brave and give it a try. See ya at the cave!
