7th Grade Football

The 7th Grade football team was a little lost this past Thursday. The season is half over and they had never really played at home. They were also a little lost when the game began because the visiting Johnson City Eagles returned the opening kick-off 73 yards for a touchdown. The Puncher defense got their eyes open by the time the point after was executed and made a good stop, but the score stood 0-6 with only a few ticks off the clock.

The Punchers regrouped and began an offensive drive from their own 29 yard line. Linemen Moreno, Gonzalez, Gillespie, Rivera, Calderon, and Durst began to open up running lanes for Hudson, Bibb, Hofmann, and Gilley. Bibb broke free off tackle and traveled 55 yards for the score. Hudson then pushed over the PAT on the sneak and the Punchers were back in the game 6-8.

The 3rd period was a back and forth period composed of some pretty good defense by the Punchers. Several stand-outs included, Seth Brewer, Samuel Dyer, Jacob Harris, Seth Hudson, Nick Martin, Jacob Moreno, and Alejandro Martinez.

In the final stanza, the Punchers put together a nice drive of 58 yards that ended with a 6 yard T.D. by Bibb, and then a nice pass and catch from Hudson to Hofmann on the throwback which finished out the game in favor of the Punchers 6-16.

Next week the Punchers pack their bags again and hit the trail toward Eldorado for a combined 7th-8th grade game.
