Mason JV Runs past Johnson City
Wednesday, October 13, 2010 • Posted October 13, 2010

The Mason JV hosted Johnson City last Thursday in only their second game in the Puncherdome this season. The Punchers did not disappoint the home crowd.

The Eagles received the opening kickoff and marched down the field to take an early 8-0 lead on Mason. The Punchers responded by forcing four turnovers and scoring 40 unanswered points to finish off the shellackin’. Raul Silguero scored on three touchdowns on runs of 8 yards, 65 yards, and 85 yards. Emilio Palacio scored on a run of 15 yards after Drigo Martinez recovered one of many Johnson City fumbles.

Quarterback Elliot Bibb had a big day both on the ground and in the air throwing a 35 yard touchdown pass to Cody Wood and scampering 27 yards for a TD run. The defensive line and ends, led by Steven Villarreal and Jason Berreles respectively, had the Eagle QB running all night long and helped shut down the running attack.

In all, the Punchers recovered three fumbles (Martinez, Tanner Dutton, and Zane Simon) and picked off one pass (Dutton). Late in the fourth quarter, Johnson City was able to push one more score across but the Punchers answered in a big way when Palacio added his second score of the game when he returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for the game’s final score.

This week’s game is set for 6:45 in Albany, which is a change from the original schedule. This was due to Eldorado’s lack of numbers.
