The 8th Grade Punchers hit the field this past Thursday with scoring on their mind. It didn’t take long for the offensive line to open up some running lanes for backs, Owen, Castillo, Castillo, and Martinez. Kyle Zavala, Steven Morquecho, J’Angelo Martinez, and Zane Haley took control of the line of scrimmage and Miguel Castillo crossed into the end zone for the first score of the evening. Miguel then connected with wide receiver Hunter Kunc for the point after, putting the Punchers out in front by the score of 0-8.

The dust had hardly settled before the Puncher offense struck again. With a combination of runs from Owens, Miguel Castillo, and Luis Castillo, Miguel scored again late in the first period. Kunc hauled in another Castillo pass for the PAT and the Punchers were in control 0-16.

The Puncher defense stepped up in the 2nd period when Jack Graves recovered an Eagle fumble on the following kick-off. Go Hasanai had placed a long kick to the Eagle 15 yard line, when the Punchers began to pound the receiver on the return, the ball came out and Graves had given the offense another chance to score. Louis Castillo then followed the blocking of Owens for the T.D. The PAT was good by Luis Castillo on the sneak and the Punchers were out in front, 0-24.

The Punchers finished out their scoring in the third period when Luis Castillo pushed across the goal line for the T.D., then followed his lineman on the screen pass for the extra point.

Johnson City put together a nice drive in the 4th period which ended in a touch down rounding out the score for the evening 6-32.

These guys continue to improve in all aspects of the game. Our offensive and defensive fronts are fun to watch. These guys include, Uli Alvarez, Darron Del Toro, Colt Gipson, Zane Haley, Walker Kuhlmann, Charles Martinez, J’Angelo Martinez, Josh Medina, Austin Miller, Steven Morquecho, and Kyle Zavala. Our backs and receivers are beginning to learn how to trust and follow their linemen, and everyone contributes to the game.

The Punchers next outing will be in Eldorado for a combined game at 5:00.
