Reunion Group Appreciates Mason Folk
Wednesday, October 20, 2010 • Posted October 20, 2010

The weekend of October 8-10, 2010, Mason, Texas was visited by members of the William Wallace and Sara Jane Taylor Watkins families and Charles and Anna Metzger Wartenbach families for a family reunion. We enjoyed the reunion and visiting for the first time or returning to Mason after many years. Our experience was very nice and welcoming. We want to express our gratitude to those in Mason who helped make this even a success.

We thank the following, and their staff for their great food and service: Angie at the Willow Creek Café, Pete at the North Side Café, Barbara & Larry at the Square Plate, and Tony Zavala’s Mexican Cafe. Tammy and her staff at the Hill Country Inn gave exceptional service and welcomed us with such Southern hospitality rarely seen these days.

We also want to thank Pam Beam, County Clerk for the assistance given while we researched our family history in the court house, Pastor Tim Scheffel and his secretary, Debbie, who helped research the records of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and Gerald Gamel, Editor of the Mason County News for printing the article about the upcoming reunion.

In addition, we thank Rosemary Kruckemeyer for taking the interest and time back in March 2010 to send info she researched in the Mason Library on the Watkins and Wartenbach families, which brought this first reunion together. And to Di Ann Gregg who provided information about cemeteries and our families buried there. Dakota of the Chamber of Commerce always provided answers to questions and ideas. The Chamber also provided brochures for us. And last, but not least, Jane Hoester, who assisted in so many ways to make this reunion such a success.

Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. It goes to show that small Texas towns still have that Southern hospitality like none other. Thank you all for treating us so well.
