The month of October is District Championship time for the compulsory gymnast. The Level 4 gymnasts in the local area competed at Aerial Athletics in San Antonio the second weekend in October with the Level 2 gymnasts the next weekend at Hugs in San Antonio and the Level 5 gymnast the last weekend in October at National Elite Gymnastics in Austin. Any Level 4 or higher gymnast earning one of the top all-around scores advances to the South State Championships to be held in Pearland at Reflex Gymnastics.
Kate Shoemaker and Jena Evans represented the Mason gymnast for Hill Country Gymnastics. Both girls performed at a high level earning two blue and two red ribbons each. Kate’s scores were 9.1 on vault, 8.9 on the uneven bars, 8.9 on the balance beam, 9.0 on the floor exercise, and a 35.90 in the all-around. Jena’s scores were just as high scoring an 8.9 on vault, 9.0 on bars, 9.3 on beam, 8.7 on floor, and 35.90 in the all-around. Jena had an outstanding meet posting her highest scores of the season.
Competing in the Level 4 meet from Mason were Tristin Keller and Brooklyn Doss. Even though both gymnast compete at the same level, they are broken down into age division. Tristin competes in the Jr. A division while Brooklyn is in the Jr. C. Both young ladies posted some tough scores. Tristin’s scores were a 9.35 on vault, 9.0 on bars, 8.85 on beam, 8.6 on floor and 35.80 in the all-around. Brooklyn has a 9.55 on vault, 8.88 on bars, 8.85 on beam, 8.4 on floor, and a 35.68 in the all-around. Both young ladies qualified for the South State Championships which will be held this weekend in Pearland. Wish them luck.
