Vondell Jordan, left, Reading Specialist at Mason Elementary School and Tammy Parrish, Elementary School Principal, presented a program on the RTI (Response to Intervention) method that the school uses for first through fourth graders at the Mason Study Club meeting on October 27th. This is a method of academic intervention used in the U.S. designed to provide early, effective assistance to children who are having difficulty in becoming fluent readers. The reading program is known as "Prime Time" to the students and is scheduled thought their Reading/ELA classes. Mason Study Club will begin a program called "Book Buddies" in January for first graders. Members will schedule times when they can go to the first grade classrooms and listen to children read individually. This will give the students additional one-on-one reading time.
