Thanks to all who came out to help celebrate our Mason County Courthouse’s 100th Birthday Celebration and all those who worked so hard to make it a success!
We gave away 350 hotdogs and drinks and the birthday cake was almost all gone! Over 100 people braved the old wooden stairway to check out the clock tower tours (Bob Laury). The ghost stories (John Davis) and pumpkin stories (Rosemary Davis) were very popular by old and young alike.
Thanks to all the docents who helped explain the various office spaces and point out all the furniture and architecture that was original to the 1910 courthouse. Judge Bearden and the County Commissioners did a great job in explaining the problems our hundred year old courthouse is facing (leaking roof, electrical problems, plumbing, etc.) and the costs involved and why it is important that we receive the Texas Historical Commission’s Courthouse Preservation Grant.
The Mason County Courthouse is one of the most beautiful in Texas and is a vital part of our community. We want to be sure it’s still here and in good shape for its 200th Birthday Celebration!
