City Accepts Commissioner Carter's Resignation
Wednesday, November 17, 2010 • Posted November 17, 2010

During their meeting on Monday evening, the Mason City Commission accepted the resignation of Commissioner Jared Carter.

Carter, who was reelected in May, represents District 1. In his letter to the Commission, he stated that he wanted to devote more time to his family and to his work, and he felt he could not devote enough time to his role as City Commissioner as it deserved. The resignation was effective November 1st.

The Mayor and Commissioners stated that they have decided to fill the vacancy by appointment for the rest of the two-year term until the regular election for the vacancy occurs in 18 months. Several of the members stated that they had talked to different individuals who were interested in the spot; but, they wanted to have those people at the meeting before asking their fellow commission members to make a decision.

The group decided to defer action on filling the vacany until their next meeting on December 13th. At that time, the people who are interested in the position will be asked to be present at the meeting so that the Commissioners can ask them questions, or answer any questions they may have.
