Petition Drive ~ Mason County Veterans Memorial
Wednesday, December 1, 2010 • Posted December 1, 2010

It has come to the public’s attention that with the pending court house restoration project, the Texas State Historical Commission requires that the Mason County military veteran’s memorial be relocated off the court house square as part of an agreement for state funding.

The Mason County American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) are organizing a campaign to petition the Texas State Historical Commission to leave the veteran’s memorial in place. These monuments include names of individuals from Mason County who has selflessly served our nation in wars from the Civil War the present. To remove the memorial from its present place on the northeast corner of the courthouse square would be treating our military veterans as second class citizens.

Petitions have been placed in local businesses to collect as many signatures as possible to present to the Texas State Historical Commission, via the Mason County Commissioners Court, insisting that the Veterans Memorial be left in its present location.

We encourage and appeal to the citizens of Mason County to join us in this campaign by signing the petition. Copies will be located at the following businesses: Hemphill Insurance; Donop Feed & Hardware; Mason Feed Store; Willow Creek Café and Zavala’s Restaurant.
